This is Shot Day, a newsletter about publishing, bagels, and queerness.

Welcome! I’m happy to be here (finally) and happy to have you here, too. I’ve been writing my whole life, filling notebooks and index cards and the margins of math tests (you can guess how well those went, then) and now I’m here to take a chance on a substack. Ideally, you’re here and you want to stay because I’m so clever and charming - but likely you’re just curious, at least to start, and I’ll do my very best to keep it entertaining.

What’s this all about? Another Substack?

Yes, yes, another Substack. It’s just you, me, and thousands of other writers writing. But that’s how it always is, and I got tired of using that as an excuse not to write. So here we are! Shot Day is a newsletter about three things that are most pertinent in my life - publishing (my job and my hobby), bagels (the bagel discourse must be addressed, and I believe I know what I’m talking about here), and queerness (I’m gay! It’s great and also interestingly difficult and complex).

What can we expect? Also, who are you?

Hm. These are good questions that I’ve asked myself on your behalf. You can expect weekly ramblings, rants, advice, thoughts, pictures, posts…stuff, I suppose. And I’m Noah, or Grey, or NG.

I have always tried to find ways to preserve, to hoard really, experiences and memories and thoughts about the life spiraling around me, always wanted to have just one single place to put things - is this why I buy so many notebooks? - so now I’m going to give this a try. There will be many bagel reviews, many books, and many thoughts and essays on queerness. I really hope you join me, and I hope you stick around too!
